Was Astarion being a vampire EVER supposed to be a surprise?

Because he is DOGSHIT at pretending not to be one. He makes all these obvious remarks and double entendres that only a vampire would say; it reminds me of whenever Agent 47 from the Hitman games is disguised as a chef or something, and he'll say something like "I assure you these appetizers are... to DIE for."

He has absolutely zero chill when you run into Gandrel, and when you find the boar that's been drained of blood he practically shouts "Well I'M not a vampire, if that's what you're suggesting!" Even if I didn't know he was one before I started playing, I'm certain I would have figured it out quickly.

For an elf with a Charlatan background, he's not very good at acting.
