Gold disappearance only in shops?

So, while in BG I got some crazy loot that REALLY needs sold my characters can hardly walk, so I was like whatever fast travel. Every single merchant has zero gold when I speak to them, which usually I would just look harder, but all 17,000 of my gold is gone too? But ONLY when I'm talking to the merchants. When I look in my inventory afterwards, it's there? Has anyone had this happen or have a solution? I don't see anything on Google and I can't tell you how many times I've reloaded.

Update: for some reason selling them something anyways made my gold and their gold appear!
