Bloody show or spotting?

Hi! I'm 39 weeks pregnant and had a cervical check done by my midwife today. She said I was 3 cm dilated, 80% effaced and baby's fetal station was 0. She mentioned that spotting is common after a cervical check. It's been 6 hours since my cervical check and now have a little discharge that is brownish red. How do you differentiate between bloody show versus spotting? Trying not to get my hopes up that baby will be here so soon!
