Can I be honest? I don't really understand the people who like to think "imagine how much better it would be if society was all autistic".
I was thinking about it the other day because it already doesn't make sense.
One thought that came up was "How does support workers work for autistics?" Because how would that work?
All autistics are by definition disabled and we know that many of us also have clashing support needs. So how would it work if everyone in society was autistic and those who need carers?
Would each carer and autistic in need of a carer have to go through some sort of matching process to make sure their needs don't clash? What happens when an autistic needs a carer majority of the time but the autistic caring for them needs time out because of burnout? Many autistics struggle with change so a change in carers would be a huge struggle. And if it is a matching process then many of us may be highly limited in even getting a carer, more so than currently stands.
There's so many flaws in the whole "society would be better if we were all autistic" but no one wants to talk about how that would be solved. How exactly would we be implementing accommodations that are suited for all autistics?
Then some get upset when you mention how a new majority would be created that would become basically the new neurotypical. We would still have social standards that are expected to be met and these would likely be set by the majority.
I just can't see any of it being a viable or sustainable option if the entirety of society was autistic. Do people only think a certain kind of autistic would be the only autism in an autistic society?
Or are people doing the whole "it's not autism, it's a comorbid issue that causes those symptoms" for those who need carers or a lot more support.
None of it would create a utopia. We would not be better off if society was all autistic. That sounds like an awful idea.
