Looking to do some much needed landscape sprucing up -- hydrangeas in Austin yay or nay? Something else?

New home owner here with some lofty landscaping goals this spring and next couple weekends -- really want to plant some big bloom potential plants / flowers... any chance hydrangeas could survive the upcoming heat? Anyone had success and / or would recommend something kind of similar instead? Thanks in advance!
