Is this bad work from the tiler?

Marble tiles cut for shower base. I noticed the edges are uneven / chipped. Is this expected? My concern is if they grout over it, the grout will not be sitting on top of the marble tile.

Should I complain to the builder? Also the last photo shows a large gap filled with tile glue. Is this the correct thing to do rather than tile?
