Managing Steel and Project Azorian (why did it fail)
I have been looking at details of Project Azorian. One of the main causes of failures from many accounts is that maraging steel was used for the claws that were used to pick up the sub. This steel is known for its strength. However, I have seen conflicting data on ductility and maraging steel. Some sources say its ductility is a strength and others say it's lack of ductility caused the failure. Could anyone shine a light on why Maraging Steel was a bad choice?
