Enlarged Spleen and Thalassemia? Could it be? Should I worry?
Just did a CT scan. My spleen is at 13.6 X 12 X 5cm. The splenic index on the calculator was 816 and 500cm3 in volume.
They say those are splenomegaly, but I have beta thalassemia minor. Heard that an enlarged spleen is normal for us. I also had other things related to thalassemia (like gallbladder stones)
I'm a tall guy. 1.91m and fit. Is this something to worry about? My doctor told me he is not worried but would like for me to talk to a hematology professional (which will take a while) since I do have beta-thalassemia.
Blood work came back normal (My bloodwork is always a bit altered because of the Thalassemia). But all the tests I did were fine.
Anyone can share their experiences with this? Especially regarding size and volume for taller people (which I heard impacts but not so sure)
