Does anyone else get annoyed when homeowners complain about new apartment buildings being constructed in their town/city?

I want to own a house so badly, but like many others in this economy, I have a career, master’s degree, and full-time job that doesn’t pay me enough to save for a down payment for a home any time in the foreseeable future. I’m just venting, but it bothers me to constantly see and hear people complaining about new apartment buildings ruining the vibe of a town/city. Most of us apartment dwellers would much rather have a home of our own, but are thankful that newer and nicer apartment complexes exist to help lessen the blow of being stuck with apartment living.
