Found this beautiful French chair. Any tips on how to clean the velvet upholstery?

I’ve always wanted a Louis XV style chair and I’ve finally stumbled across one. However, the velvet upholstery is pretty dirty and stained.

Is there any hope for me to clean it at home? I don’t care about it being perfect, just want some of the dirt/discoloration removed. I fear it’s likely silk velvet (maybe cotton, but I don’t know how to tell) which means water would likely damage it further.

I can’t afford to get it reupholstered so if I can’t clean it, I’ll probably give it up.
