8 hours of uninterrupted rest?

Is there a reference for how this is defined exactly? My squadron is making my shop keep jobbing until 11pm and then telling us to report for human performance day tomorrow at 7am. I know the 21-101 says that all maintainers will be given 8 hours of uninterrupted rest, but to me that doesn't include drive time, the expected meal the person will need to prepare and eat, mandatory requirement for dress and appearance and AFI 1-1 stuff like hygiene. So generally speaking ive always given people a minimum of 10 hours but usually 12. I've always interpreted "rest" as sleep or at least being in bed. But that's the problem isn't it? It's my interpretation. So how is the Air Force interpreting it?
