AITAH FOR NOT GOING TO MY UNCLE'S WEDDING

Hi this is my post on this app and I want to make sure I’m not in the wrong here I 28 M am refusing to go to my late uncle Let's call him Tim 45 M's wedding after he used to abuse us as kids

Growing up I used to hear a lot of bad things about Uncle tim I thought they were all rumors into one day when I was in fifth grade, and my brother was in ninth grade. He got in trouble for being in the hallways so Because he obviously couldn’t listen to anything my mom said she told him she was calling uncle Tim. I was a kid and oblivious at the time so I didn’t understand. my brother immediately fell to his knees and burst into tears, begging and pleading for her not to. But when Uncle Tim got there. He took my brother into a room. The next thing I remember was my brother begging and pleading for help. He called off for my mom multiple times but she just sat on the couch like it was normal . He kept yelling to stop and that he was sorry. After about a few minutes, Uncle Tim came out. He told my mom that he got his act together and it won’t happen again. Fast-forward a few years. I am now in 10th grade. I admit, that I fell into the wrong crowd, and I constantly got in trouble and was ignoring Everything my mom was telling me so she called Uncle Tim. I only knew him as a sweet loving guy but boy was I wrong when he came he pulled me into a room and that’s when it started. He took his belt off and he beat me to the point where I was throwing up. I was calling my mom for help begging and pleading for her to come to save me, but she never came after what felt like hours, it was finally over he left, and I was left to clean up the mess I made ever since then me and my mom hasn’t had the best relationship neither has me and Tim.

Witch brings us to the present day I got an invoice for a wedding I was confused about who sent it at first because it didn't have a name but after texting my brothers and getting more information it was from Tim I asked my brother to tell him that I will not be attending the wedding after that we hung up the phone, not even an hour later I got a text from Tims wife asking for more answers I didn't know her well so I didn't get into the details of what happened I just told her we weren't talking after an experience we had she said ok and left it at that soon after my uncle called upset with me for not coming and asked me to explain myself at first I didn't want to but after some very hurtful things was said I finally broke down and said you expect me to come sit at your wedding after you beat me in a room for what feel like hours yes, I believe every kid deserves a punishment but the way you did it was out of order you literally beat me until I threw up and to make it even worse you and my mom was acting like it was completely fine and made me clean it up. I can’t see you the same as I used to after that he got upset and blew up at me telling me I was just a spoiled brat who deserve to learn a lesson when I ask him what lesson he thought he was teaching me he said it was nothing like a old-fashioned style whooping because you got your act together. I firmly told him I got my act together because I was scared of literally getting beaten again. He kept telling me to let it go and we’re all grown now so it shouldn’t affect us. I told him he was right we are grown and that’s why I’m choosing to not come to the wedding and hung up on him since then I’ve been getting calls from my mom telling me she didn’t raise me this way. I’ll admit I was a asshole, but I told my mom she can seriously go fuck herself if she saw nothing wrong with her brother literally beating her kids and that we’re begging for help while she sat back on her ass and did nothing. so they think for one moment I’m going to come to that wedding and act like nothing never happened. They can all seriously go fuck themselves and hung up the phone and blocked her number. I received a text from my brother saying that my mother has been crying nonstop because she won’t have all her kids there and then I’m treating her as the bad guy So am I the asshole
