Advice to join the ADF as an Australian permeant resident

I’m an American citizen and currently a permanent resident in Melbourne. I’m 26 and studying accounting, with two semesters left before I graduate. Lately I’ve been feeling unfulfilled and don’t see myself working in an office. I was interested in joining the military when I was younger, but my parents didn’t approve. Since moving to Australia I’ve realized I want to live here permanently; I love the lifestyle in Melbourne.

I’m considering applying to join the (ADF) in April which will be almost four years since I became a permanent resident. I could apply for citizenship then, but I’d like to apply during the university break instead. Given the recent changes in rules for permanent residents joining the ADF, what do you think my chances are?

I’m quite fit; I lift weights three times a week, cycle to work and uni, and have been training in Muay Thai for a year. I’m also learning how to swim since I never learned back home. My only concern is that I weigh 51 kg and 5’7 and find it hard to gain weight.

I’d appreciate any advice you can offer!
