What happened with A24 this year?

Honestly I’m just confused how everything went down the way it did. Sing Sing’s been talked about a while now as a Best Picture contender but it was only released in like 2 theaters. Then Queer came and pretty much got the same treatment lol. The Brutalist is a great film but it seems like they sorta lucked into that vs the 2 other films they had on deck longer.
