The iPhone user experience has gotten incredibly frustrating for me

I’ve had an iPhone ever since the 4S and generally speaking, the iPhone has always had an amazing user experience. It was very intuitive to navigate iOS, things generally worked through way they were supposed to, and I would easily be able to multitask between several apps.

But holy shit, the user experience has gotten so much worse and I hope I’m not alone.

First, the fucking keyboard. I used to be able to type pretty quickly and decently accurately, but the keyboard and autocorrect are a mess. It feels like where to tap the screen is slightly off from the letter itself. Ever since iOS 17 I have been making an incredible amount of typos that autocorrect doesn’t even pick up on! I could misspell a word by one or two letters and iOS knows it’s misspelled, but offers no suggestions on what the correction could be. Even worse, it now autocorrects correctly spelled words because it can’t wait for any further context, so it’s super annoying to have to keep backtracking to fix contextual corrections. And idk if this has to do with the key touch calibration, but does anyone else feel like they have to tap on something multiple times for it to register? It’s like the touchscreen became less sensitive overnight.

Another issue is the horrid memory management. It’s been a (true) meme for years that iOS has great memory management. Not anymore. It was unbelievably frustrating last week to look up a YouTube video on how to fix my washing machine — every time I would lock my phone (btw ‘lock’ just corrected to ‘lick’ right after I finished typing it), I’d be greeted with the Home Screen. When I reopen YouTube, the whole app reset and I had to watch ads again for that same video. This happened at least 4 more times before I changed my auto lock settings. And it’s not a YouTube issue because it happens with Twitter as well. Nothing stays open for longer than 10 seconds if you leave the app.

And now there’s an annoying iMessage bug where I’ll send some messages but they get hung on sending. I can only resolve this by killing the Messages app and having to retype everything I just wrote. This is very annoying because most of the time I send texts then lock my phone or go onto another app immediately and I’d have no idea the messages were stuck until I check and see why I haven’t gotten a reply yet. Message sends no problem after I kill and reopen the app.

And why are so many features hidden behind multiple menus and taps now? iOS used to be so intuitive, now you have to open sub-menus just to get to a specific feature that used to be available with one or two taps.

I’m not even going to waste my time complaining about the Safari back button bug because that’s existed for so long and I’m entirely convinced nothing will be done about it.

Anyway, that’s my rant. I’ve already tried restoring my phone and nothing. Here’s hoping to a less buggy iOS 18.
