Not impressed.
I decided to finally try the game after years of seeing it pass by. I’d seen a few clips recently and thought it was about time to give it a shot.
Gotta say, I’m not impressed. I don’t agree with much of what’s been said about it—especially here on this sub, which sometimes feels like a cult.
The game started fine, but the moment I was introduced to the mechanics—particularly the crafting system—it became clear the game had regressed several years. And the gunplay? It’s obvious the design is intended to make combat artificially difficult and waste ammo, rather than because it’s genuinely challenging or fun.
As for the lore? The storyline is super cliché. Sure, Deacon and Sarah’s meeting is fine in a vacuum, but it falls apart if you apply any common sense. Why would she even be lost 100 meters from a town? And why do we constantly drive back and forth, other than to justify the redneck scene?
There are so many issues if you stop to think about what’s happening and why. I get why Sony barely acknowledges this game. Compared to their other titles, it simply doesn’t meet the standard of a good story.
I know this opinion won’t be popular, but these are my honest thoughts.
P.S. The way some of you compare this to The Last of Us, especially claiming this game has "no political points of view," is ridiculous. Ignoring its religious and political undertones only erases public perception of the very narratives it serves.
